CIB merge returns unequal 0 if an error occurred. In addition, an error log file can be written during a CIB merge run, which contains detailed information about the occurred error.

The return value can be evaluated by the application, see chapter program return values.

The error log file can be scaled in many ways by the application developer using error categories and diagnostic levels. It is especially helpful for the raw text developer, but can also be used by the user for error analysis. See chapter Error log file.

CIB merge can optionally generate detailed trace files. These are often very useful for CIB support when analyzing complex support cases. See chapter Trace options.
